Xiaomi Civi 3 vs. Honor 90: Which is the Better Phone?

The Xiaomi Civi 3 and Honor 90 are two comparable smartphone models, both priced similarly and targeting a similar market segment. However, when considering their overall features, it is generally safer to lean toward the Xiaomi Civi 3 due to some notable advantages.

Hardware-wise, the Honor 90 utilizes the Snapdragon 7Gen1 processor. While it is claimed to be an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 778G, the chip’s power consumption under the Samsung process is unsatisfactory, leading to a decline in its reputation. Notably, few domestic mid-range Huawei models opt for this chip, highlighting its clear disadvantage.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Civi 3 employs the Dimensity 8200Ultra processor, which offers excellent performance and power efficiency. With an Antutu benchmark score of around 900,000, it surpasses the Snapdragon 7Gen1 in overall performance.

Regarding the screen, the Xiaomi Civi 3 features a conventional 6.55-inch curved OLED screen with 1080P resolution, 12-bit color support, and a high-frequency PWM dimming of 1920Hz. While lacking flashy configurations, it covers all essential aspects and provides excellent display quality for its price range.

The Honor 90, however, boasts a superior screen with a larger size, 1.5K resolution for higher definition, and improved brightness. Its standout feature is the support for 3840Hz ultra-high frequency PWM dimming, virtually eliminating any eye strain caused by flickering and providing a near-zero risk curved screen experience.

In terms of cameras, the Xiaomi Civi 3 offers a 32-megapixel front-facing camera paired with a 32-megapixel wide-angle lens, forming a dual-camera setup. On the rear, it houses an IMX800 sensor as the 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens.

In comparison, the Honor 90 features a single front camera but delivers excellent imaging quality with its 50-megapixel AI portrait main camera. On the rear, it utilizes a Samsung HP3 200-megapixel main camera, along with a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel depth-of-field lens.

Both models exhibit good selfie capabilities, with the Xiaomi Civi 3 gaining an advantage through its additional wide-angle lens, offering more versatility in capturing images. While the Honor 90 boasts a higher resolution for its main rear camera, it lacks OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), resulting in inferior shake stability. In terms of overall performance, I prefer the Xiaomi Civi 3 due to its mature tuning of the IMX800 main camera, despite its lower resolution compared to the Honor 90’s 200-megapixel lens.

Concerning battery, the Xiaomi Civi3 packs a 4500mAh battery with 67W fast charging support, while the Honor 90 incorporates a 5000mAh battery with 66W fast charging capability. The charging speeds of both models are similar, but the Honor 90 may offer slightly better battery life. However, the Xiaomi Civi 3 boasts a thinner and lighter design, sacrificing some battery life for a more lightweight and portable experience.

In conclusion, while the Honor 90 excels in certain aspects like the screen and camera, its processor’s shortcomings are evident. Therefore, when considering all factors, the Xiaomi Civi 3 emerges as a slightly better choice in terms of overall performance, especially when factoring in the price.
