OnePlus has confirmed on social media that its next flagship smartphone will arrive this summer 2017 named The OnePlus 5.
The new Oneplus 5 is a Sequel to the OnePlus 3 and 3T from last year of 2016. Rumors have pegged it to have a dual camera setup, snapdragon 835 supporting up to 8GB of ram, 5.5in Quad-HD AMOLED display and a 4,000mAh Dash Charge battery. The Snapdragon 835 is the first Qualcomm processor to be made with a 10nm process, which will bring various improvements including performance and efficiency, which in turn will result in better battery life for devices. The reason for it to be named Oneplus 5 instead of Oneplus 4 is because the number four is considered unlucky in China. Also it’s actually the fifth OnePlus flagship phone (the sixth in total if you count the OnePlus X), which means the name OnePlus 5 would make more sense. Over the past few years we’ve seen the OnePlus One, the OnePlus 2, the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T. According to OnePlus the nr 5 was a inspiration by the former NBA player Robert Horry who had a number five jersey and is a popular player among OnePlus employees.
OnePlus 5 release date
It’s more likely that the OnePlus 5 will land in mid-2017. The OnePlus One launched in April 2014, the OnePlus 2 in July 2015 and the OnePlus 3 in June 2016.
OnePlus 5 price
Price rumor comes with a pricetag of $449. That’s slightly higher than the the $439 starting price of the OnePlus 3T, and if accurate suggests the UK price will be slightly higher too. The 3T costs £399 in the UK, so expect a price of over £400 for the OnePlus 5.
