Snapdragon 860 5G Comparison With the Snapdragon 855 and 855 +

Over the years, Qualcomm Snapdragon chips have achieved a renowned position in the mobile device segment. On Monday (22), the company’s most powerful line of chipsets has just gained a new member, the Snapdragon 860 5G.

According to Qualcomm, smartphones with SoC, which debuted in Poco X3 Pro model, will have performance comparable to the high-end phones presented in 2019 and will be more powerful than the intermediate devices available in retail today. So what is the difference between Snapdragon 860 5G, Snapdragon 855, and 855+?

In fact, on Qualcomm’s official website, the Snapdragon 855+ and Snapdragon 860 information pages have been merged, sharing the part number of SM8150-AC. The reason is that the CPU, GPU, DSP, and other architectures are completely the same. They are all Kryo 485 cores with the highest frequency of 2.96GHz, Adreno 640 GPU, and Hexagon 690 DSP, and the graphics performance is 15% higher than that of the Snapdragon 855.

There are three main differences. One is the baseband. The Snapdragon 855+ can be externally connected to the X50 5G baseband, but the Snapdragon 860 seems to recommend the integrated X24 4G baseband.

Secondly, in terms of display output, the Snapdragon 855+ supports dual 1080P screens at 60Hz, and the Snapdragon 860 supports dual 1080P screens at 90Hz. The third is the memory, the Snapdragon 855+ is up to 12GB, and the Snapdragon 860 is up to 16GB LPDDR4X-2133.

As the CEO of Qualcomm said, when the world is short of cores, they will pay more attention to products with mature processes. Perhaps this is the reason why 7nm chips such as Snapdragon 860 and Snapdragon 870 have resurfaced.
