Samsung has decided not to use its next flagship model, or Galaxy S21, due to low yield, industry sources said, The Lec reported yesterday.

Samsung’s Under Display Camera won’t be available for production of the Galaxy S21 until November at the latest. According to The Lec, there is a high probability that the first Samsung UDC will be a successor to Samsung’s next-generation folding screen phone (or Galaxy Z Fold 3).

The report also noted that Samsung initially planned to use UDC technology in the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which will be released this year, but was unable to produce enough of it. We learned that the world’s first mobile phone equipped with under-screen camera technology, ZTE AXON 205G, was launched on January 1 last month.

As for Samsung’s under-screen camera technology, South Korean media explained that Samsung plans to implement UDC In OLED panels by using a laser to open HIAA: Hole In Active Area. There are two types of Hia, “Hia 1” and “Hia 2”. “Hia 1” makes holes directly above the camera on the screen (the perforating screen currently used), while “Hia 2” makes holes in the screen. UDC is a technology developed around HIA2 punch.
