Samsung has unveiled a brand new rugged tablet, the Galaxy Tab Active 5, which features a military grade rugged body, a removable battery and S-Pen support. The device is durable and usable in harsh weather conditions, in the field. We have specs below.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 measures 126.8 x 213.9 x 10.1 mm and weighs 433 grams. It’s certified within the MIl-STD-810H standards and features 3 physical buttons, plus a user replaceable battery. Thanks to an inbox protective cover, the slate remains undamaged falling from a height of up to 12 meters. It features an IP68 rating for dust proof and water resilience and relies on Gorilla Glass 5 protection upfront.
The bundled S-Pen also has an IP68 rating. This is a smaller tablet than you’d expect, as it has an 8 inch LCD panel with a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. For selfies, it adopts a 5 megapixel camera and the back panel features a main 13 MP shooter with 4K capture. It runs on Android 14 with One UI 6.0 on top.
Inside the tablet we find an Exynos 1380 processor, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage. There’s also a microSD card slot in the mix. Things are rounded up by a not so impressive 5050 mAh battery. We also get a side facing fingerprint scanner, plus a customizable Active key. The tablet offers features like dual SIM and eSIM, 5G, pogo pins, audio jack, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, Dolby Atmos.
