Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Unboxing (Smart Keyboard Trio 500 Too): Useful Combo for work and education

It’s been a while since we last tested a tablet, but here we are again, with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and also with a companion, the Smart Keyboard Trio 500. The slate is priced at $229 and the keyboard at $50. The tablet just debuted in India, where it’s even more affordable and it comes in 4G or Wi-Fi versions. Let’s see what’s inside the box.

Inside the box of the tablet we find an USB-C to USB-A cable, a SIM key and a 7.8W charger, plus a manual. The slate is made of aluminum, with plastic lids at the top or bottom. It measures 8 mm in thickness and weighs 366 grams. It’s easy to handle in both portrait and landscape mode and comes with sufficiently thick bezels, so your fingers can fit on them, without looking or feeling weird. The device is available in gray or silver and it comes with a TFT 8.7 inch screen with a rather modest 1340 x 800 pixel resolution.

It feels like a compromise, but indoors it should be enough. As far as hardware is concerned, we get a MediaTek Helio P22T processor, a 12 nm CPU, an octa core one related to the P22 also seen on the Nokia 2.4 or Galaxy A10s. It’s also present on a tablet like the Lenovo Tab M10 Plus. Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite comes with 3 or 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of storage, as well as a 5100 mAh battery and a microSD card slot. The battery charges at 15W and we also find stereo speakers here, one on each side, when you hold the device in landscape mode.

As far as the camera goes, we have a modes package, but one fitting for the segment: an 8 MP shooter at the back and a 2 MP at the front. As far as connectivity goes, there’s Wi-Fi dual band, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and USB-C 2.0. It runs on Android 11 with One UI 3.1 on top, with Chat Bubbles, notification history, Quick Settings menu and new widgets on the lockscreen. Knox is here for security and we also have an eye protection and a Kids Mode.

As far as the Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500 goes, the device has two main abilities: it can connect to 3 devices at the same time and it has a DeX button. You have a button used to connect to each of the 3 devices you will hook up to via Bluetooth. We alternated between the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, a Galaxy A32 5G and a smart TV and it worked fine. The keyboard works using 3 AAA batteries, it has Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and weighs 412 grams. It has 78 keys and also comes with Home, Back, Recents keys, plus a brightness button and other useful buttons, in a compared format.

The keys aren’t as soft as a laptop keyboard or the Logitech MX Keys to name just one example. We also have multimedia buttons and also directional buttons. There are shift buttons, a FN button and a search button. It’s easy to insert in a bag and take it along for a ride, together with the tablet. These two products should work fine for some remote work and school purposes.

We’ll be back with a review soon and you can get the tablet here.
