Earlier this week, rumors surfaced that Redmi would launch at least one new flagship with the Snapdragon 888 chipset in 2021. One of these phones is probably the Redmi K40 Pro, which Xiaomi is expected to replace with the Redmi K30 Pro. And today, an executive of the company has confirmed a very important detail about the display design of the Redmi K40 Pro.

The news comes directly from Redmi’s product director, Wang Tang who dialogue that took place on Weibo between one of the users of this Chinese social network.

The first, Weibo user asked if Redmi was going to use curved displays, the second Wang Tang answered “Not now.” So as a result it has been confirmed that the Redmi K40 Pro will continue to integrate a flat-screen like its predecessor.

There are a lot of reasons for this decision, but the main one is probably the price: a curved screen is more expensive to manufacture and purchase, and Redmi hardly wants to increase the cost of its flagships – it is enough that Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro have added a lot in price in comparison with predecessors. And it’s not yet clear how expensive the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro will be.

Recently, Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi Group China and general manager of the Redmi brand, confirmed that Redmi will be the first batch of mobile phone brands for the commercial Snapdragon 888 flagship processor, which is most likely the Redmi K40 Pro. It is worth noting that Redmi will also adhere to the positioning of the ultimate cost-effective.

Previously, Redmi K20 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro were the cheapest Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon 865 phones at the time, so Redmi K40 Pro may also become the cheapest Snapdragon 888 phone.
