After Apple A14 and Kirin 9000, another big player,  5nm mobile phone chip snapdragon 875 is coming.

According to other media reports, Qualcomm has officially released the invitation letter, announcing that it will host Snapdragon 2020 Technology Summit on December 1st and 2nd. Unlike previous years, due to COVID-19, this year’s summit will be held in the form of an online digital event.

Qualcomm mentioned in the invitation email “high-end mobile performance”, other media speculation, the summit Qualcomm will officially launch a new generation of flagship mobile phone processor Snapdragon 875, but the final name has not been confirmed.

Snapdragon 875 will be Qualcomm’s fastest, most powerful, and most energy efficient 5G chipset. It was previously reported that Samsung’s S21 series, which will be launched in February 2021, will be the first in the world, and xiaomi’s mi11 series, OPPO Find X3 series and other new-generation flagship devices will be the first to be commercially available in China.

It is rumored that this year Qualcomm will work with Samsung to build the top-of-the-line processor based on the latter’s 5nm EUV process, compared with Apple’s A14 and Huawei’s Kirin 9000, which are standard TSMC’s 5nm process.

Known tidbits reveal that qualcomm’s Snapdragon 875 will use a “1+3+4” eight-core, three-cluster architecture with a “1” architecture that is an oversized core Architecture X1.

The large core of Snapdragon 875 is said to be based on a much stronger Cortex X1 than the A78, which could deliver performance improvements of up to 30% on the CPU level.

In the past, Qualcomm’s flagship processor has also adopted the “1+3+4” design, representing the “super core + large core + energy efficiency core”, but the difference between super core and large core mainly lies in the CPU frequency. For example, snapdragon 865 has a 2.84GHz large core and a 2.42GHz large core, both of which are Cortex-A77.

The Snapdragon 875 is the first Cortex X1 with a large core and Cortex-A78 with a large core, which is the “super core” in the real sense.

There are also rumours that snapdragon 875 will have multiple “lite” versions to cope with rising smartphone costs. Qualcomm is also likely to confirm this at this upcoming event.
