OPPO Mobile Telecommunications, due to its 863 percent growth, became the fastest growing smartphone brand in 2018, according to Counterpoint Research. The company’s market share witnessed an increase of one percent as compared to its 5 percent share in 2017.
Chinese Phones are expanding market shares
Despite Apple leading the global arena of smartphone segment, Chinese phones are somehow stamping their names in the top charts. Apart from OPPO, Chinese brands like OnePlus (+209%) and Xiaomi (+149%) are also in fast expansion. Huawei’s share in the segment reached double digits (10%) for the first time in a year.
The main reason behind OPPO’s growth is the prominent success and growth of the sales of its R15 and R17 series. The company targeted its domestic market and attracted the majority of its revenue increment from there in China. Amongst the two series, R17 Pro (RX17 Pro) is the most popular. The smartphones launched with the introduction of ‘Ultra Night Mode’ camera in late 2018. And OPPO Find X, launched in Paris’s Louvre Museum, is equipped with Panoramic Arc Screen, pop camera and sleek design.
OPPO is expanding horizons
OPPO is not planning to just stay inside China. The company is expanding its horizons at a much greater pace, by targeting European countries. Countries like France, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands, with its mid-to-high-tier offerings, are the major targets. Because of the expansion, the total number of OPPO’s global markets reached above 40 for the first time.
Counterpoint estimates that the premium smartphone segment will continue to grow in double digits, while the next growth cycle in the premium segment will be driven by the emergence of commercially available 5G smartphones.
The company’s first 5G smartphone, OPPO Reno, will debut in Zurich, Europe on April 24. It also features 10x Hybrid Zoom, Snapdragon 855, Pivot Rising Structure, as well as VOOC 3.0 Flash Charging.
