Global Tablet Market Drops 14.2% in Q3 2023 (IDC Figures)

Now that we’re approaching the year end, it’s high time we started seeing some figures for Q3 2023, as far as the tablet market is concerned. In the third quarter of the year, the worldwide tablet shipments registered a drop of 14.2% year over year.

There were 33.2 million units shipped. This followed a pretty major 29.9% YoY decrease in Q2 2023. There is still a jump in Q3 2023 compared to Q2 2023, by 18%, due to a series of seasonal factors. Apple keeps the lead at the top of the tablet market, with 12.5 million units shipped, not that anyone is surprised.

There’s also a 15.1% year over year decline for the Cupertino giant. Apple didn’t launch any new models in Q3, which is usually a booming period for the company, but it did keep its market share. Samsung ranked second and had 6 million units shipped. Lenovo and Huawei secured the third and fourth places with 2.6 million and 2.3 million units respectively.

Amazon somehow made it back to top 5, as they prep for a usually productive holiday season. They’re also banking on the new premium device, the Fire Max 11. Chromebook shipments also had a decrease of 20.8% in Q3 2023. The Chromebook market is on the up and up, courtesy of a refresh in the education sector and remaining budgets in governmental spending.

Q4 2023 should finally bring the expected increase in sales, even though some are still waiting for the new iPad models slated for 2024.
