Hey guys, today i want to explain how to get a bigger primary partition for apps.

Â

Just before you do anything : BACKUP YOUR ROM! THIS PROCESS CAN BRICK YOUR SMARTPHONE IF YOU DO IT WRONG ! Im not responsible for bricked phones by following this tutorial. if you do it wrong , your phone may get bootloop or doesnt even power on.

Â

ALSO DO NOT USE THIS ON UBIFS !

Â

Maybe many of you got the problem that the primary partition is too small to download or install apps.

Â

You can change the rom size by changing the correct EBR.

Â

Read here if you dont know what EBR is :

 http://rex-shen.net/understanding-mtks-mbrebr-file-format/

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_boot_record

Now to edit the EBR´s , i would recommend to download the correct EBR´s here :

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455850

Â

IF YOUR EBR IS NOT IN THE LIST !!!

Â

just look for your internal memory total and if its 8GB , go and download the 8GB ebr´s (depending on what size you like). Also take a look at the SoC, you may need the correct one (that means if you have mtk 6582, take the 6582 one). Also if you have kitkat, take the kitkat EBRS !!!!

Â

So if you want 4gb system / 4gb primary. Search for 8GB EBR´s and download the 4/4 version.

Â

There are 2 methods to install this, A and B :

Â

Now follow this procedure with SP-flashtool 5.1:

Â

A) Installs EBR´s when firmware is already on the phone

Â

Make sure you get a stock rom / backup and replace EBR1 and EBR2 in the firmware folder. (backup the old EBR´s)

Â

1) turn off the phone

2) remove battery

3) run flashtool with scatter file and make sure ONLY EBR1 and EBR2 is ticked and you point to the correct path of the downloaded files (click on path and edit it if needed)

4) Press "DOWNLOAD" or hit F9

5) connect the usb cable to the pc

6) reinsert battery

Â

(here is a tutorial for sp-flashtool:

)

or here http://www.china-devices.com/Thread-SPFlash-Tool-Guide

Â

Flash with a new clean rom

Â

Replace EBR1 and EBR2 in the firmware folder and flash the full rom as shown above.

Â

you can chose firmware upgrade or just flash all with download

Â

You should now have 2 new partitions in correct size

Â

BTW, If you only got EBR1, you only have 1 partition !!!

Â

Check out the Video tutorial here :

Â

Â

UPDATE (20/04/15): @ghost45 from XDA the originator of this method is looking for people to test this who have only 1 EBR partition on their devices

hi itxtutor

Yes u3gamer24. it doesnt matter - FIrmware upgrade will tick all IMAGES , while DOWNLOAD just does single images too. Edited the tutorial

@gernalrikan

if your SoCs ebr is not in the list, you have to mod it on your own, tutorial coming soon
