Many people nowadays switch from expensive televisions to projectors because of their cheaper price and bigger picture. Finding a good projector can be difficult, especially compared to choosing a TV. There are alot of things to consider like distance, brightness, audio and much more. But creating a home theatre experience can be worth the effort. A high class home theatre will cost you thousands of dollars, but there are some solutions on the market where you can experience it even on a budget.
Vankyo has released their latest and very popular Leisure 510 Projector which retails on amazon:
Compared to similar projectors in the same price range, you’ll find the 510 is far brighter than average. Brightness is one of the most important factors for projectors, it’s almost as important as high resolution is for televisions. Also something you should think about is if you want to use the projector stationary in your living room or maybe also take it with you for work or bring it to a friend. Compared to intentionally portable projectors, the VANKYO Leisure 510 isn’t exactly what you would call a portable device. But if you’re trying to find a projector to play games, stream videos, and connect to mobile devices, then the Leisure 510 can probably provide everything you’re after. There is even a carry bag included so you can transport it to your friend or workplace. For a compact device as VANKYO Leisure 510, it is compatible to PC, laptop, iPad, iPhone and other smartphones, as well as TV Stick, Chromecast, Xbox, and PS3/PS4. A true omnipotent multimedia projector.
Buildquality & Design
The VANKYO Leisure 510 is a medium sized projector and measures 13.8 x 13.1 x 6.2 inches, making it comparable to the size of a playstation 3 or small computer. It weighs around 5.5lb, which is about 20% heavier than the similarly-sized 410. Its black or white aluminum chassis is primarily highlighted by the extra-large design of VANKYO’s distinctive front lens. There are also mounting holes at the bottom to mount the projector on the a ceilingmount,
There are plenty of ventilation holes prevent heat from becoming an issue. This is really important for bigger projectors which are brighter than average like the Leisure 510. For sure the projetor is also a bit more noisy than others due to the big fan and the improved airflow, but its barely noticeable when you got a good soundbar. The top of the chassis features an enlarged manual focus wheel. Adjusting the wheel is a fairly intuitive process, and it provides firm tactile feedback you operate it. The keystone correction wheel rests just behind the focus wheel, though about half the size. Keystone correction is done manually and its really important to get a non distorted picture.
Audio and Image Quality
So whats the most important thing a projector needs to do ? Yes exactly, project a big screen with highest brightness possible. It is capable of Projecting screen sizes between 44” and 200”, and the Leisure 510 Full HD Projector doesn’t struggle to fill a bigger wall.
Even though its claimed to be a full HD projector, the Leisure 510 has a native resolution of 1270 x 768 with a 16:9 aspect ratio. That means this projector’s native resolution is about the same as 720p (1280×720). Vankyo calls this Leisure 510 Full HD Projector because it’s capable of playing 1080p content with digital upscaling. 720p Native Resolution is normal for projectors in this price range, but there is a big difference between the upscaling quality of projectors and the Vankyo Leisure 510 is doing good here.
In the early days projectors had expensive lightbulbs, but now because of LED Technology, this is a thing of the past. The Leisure 510 Full HD Projector is built around an upgraded LED light source. The VANKYO Leisure 510 pushes out a maximum of 3,600-lux. And that’s what allows it to almost double the luminosity of comparable projectors. Compared to similar home theater projectors, its performance certainly stands out.
The 16.7-million color LED bulb takes advantage of the full chromatic range of this technology. Aided with the MStar Advanced Color Engine, colors are dynamically delivered to create beautifully high contrast images
We all know thatinternal speakers are never a good option .The VANKYO Leisure 510 is intended to help this projector serve within a home theatre and comes with several connections for that. But even if you are on the go, with the Leisure 510 and its pair of 3W speakers you can create a total 6-watts of audio output. It’s comparable to the kind of sound you’d get with a cheap television. If you want some better sound you can easily connect some speakers or a soundbar to you projector and have a more rich sound.
We are still testing the device and there will be a video on Stevens YouTube-Channel Techmagnet soon. There we will also open it up and take a closer look inside of the device. All in all it looks like a really decent projector for a budget home theatre or work purposes, but can’t replace high end projectors.
