China Mobile to release a 5G smartphone by August

China’s largest telecommunications operator China Mobile said at its 5G+ media communication meeting today that it will be launching its own 5G smartphone. The self-branded 5G handset will have the name: Forerunner X1. As per expectations, the device will release officially in August this year. The telco is the first to initiate 5G in China, after the issuance of licenses in June. The company has released 5G packages as well today along with an announcement that it will set up a 30 billion yuan ($4.36 billion) 5G industry fund and has already raised the first installment of 7-10 billion yuan.

CHINA MOBILE EXPECTED 5G SMARTPHONE FEATURES

The new handset is likely to sport the Snapdragon 855 SoC. As per reports, it will arrive with a 6.47-inch AMOLED display with Full-HD+ resolution. It’s also expected to feature the ultra HD codec with 8.85 million pixels (4096×2160), dual speakers with DTS-X sound and more. Recently, the company did provide a render glimpse of the device which is to release in the near future. The Vice General Manager of China Mobile suggests that prices of 5G devices will be high. Smartphones with 5G connectivity will start at about 5,000 yuan (US$735) on average.
