CES 2021: TCL unveils NXTPAPER Tablet With Paper-Like Display, Tab 10S Affordable Tablet

TCL brought some pretty interesting hardware products to CES 2021, including TV sets, rollables, but also tablets. Chief among them is the unusual NXTPAPER, which is supposed to offer a paper-like alternative to E Ink. Also known as NXTPaper, this device is able to reach 60 Hz rate in future iterations. We also get an affordable new slate, dubbed Tab 10S.

NXTPaper uses a paper-like display technology, which is 36% slimmer than a classic LCD and also consumes 65% less power. This full color display relies on a very reflective surface that reuses the natural light and provides 25% higher contrast compared to an average LCD. It also brings the most advanced eye protection available for a color display, with TUV Rheinland safety certification and no blue light emissions.

There’s also the promise of 60 Hz refresh rate and zero flicker, something that E Ink screens can’t quite deliver yet. The slate offers an 8.8 inch 1440 x 1080 pixel display and runs on Android 10. It’s got a MediaTek 8768E processor, coupled with 4 GB of RAM and also 64 GB of storage, plus you can add more via microSD. There’s a 5500 mAh battery here that gives you one day of usage. At the back we find an 8 megapixel camera and upfront a 5 MP shooter.

This product debuts in April priced at 349 euros.

The other tablet that TCL introduced at CES is the Tab 10S, which is a larger model, with a 10.1 inch screen, an octa core processor and a larger 8000 mAh battery. It uses POGO pin connectors for third party accessories like a T Pen stylus. It also offers a 2000 x 1920 pixel resolution, 8 MP back camera, 5 MP front camera and also dual speakers. Runs on Android 10 and has profiles for all family members.

It also has 4G and it’ll available in March at 199 euros.
