Borderlands 3 is here with its eventful trailer

Flashback Alert – October, 2009:

Gearbox Software launched Borderlands, an intuitive and exciting game with the help of its tiring and exceptionally well-deserved efforts.

Fast-forward 10 years and Gearbox Software is here with the third main instalment in the series. The trailer of Borderlands 3 is creating all the hype it needs and deserves. The teaser trailer features a bunch of familiar characters. The features, plot, or even release date, are still kept behind the curtains. We’ll learn more about it on April 3rd.

The Borderlands 3 trailer seems to promise the same thing as Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The trailer picturized a colourful shooter for up to four players, with a distinctive cartoonish style and an infinite variety of procedurally generated firearms.

“Mask of Mayhem” – the trailer – confirmed that the game is experiencing the revival of several major figures. The protagonists from the excessively popular prequels were returning. And it gave us a glimpse at the new quartet of playable characters. The latest trailer doesn’t give these protagonists names or character classes. But, we get to see them in action with new vehicles, powers, and weapons. There’s also some detail on the villains they’ll be fighting, who are related to something called the “Children of the Vault” — seemingly, in true Borderlands fashion, a cult with a penchant for gladiatorial combat.

The trailer emphasises saving and exploring “the worlds” in the plural. This indicates that players might be hopping between more locations than they have in earlier games. There will be more locations than just the original rugged planet of Pandora.

Just ahead of the game release, Gearbox has also announced a free texture upgrade for Borderlands owners on April 3rd. Furthermore, a remastered version of the original game – Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition – will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The big question now is whether Borderlands 3 will bring significant changes to the series, or whether Gearbox will expand and refine the formula it developed in earlier instalments. Whatever happens, the fans have high hopes with their favourite game-makers.
